Short form thoughts and updates.

  • Good News, Bad News, Who Knows?

Once upon a time, a farmer had a valuable horse run away.

    “Bad News!” said the people.

“Good news, bad news, who knows?” replied the farmer.

Later, the horse returned to the farm with many wild horses accompanying it.

    “Good News!” said the people.

“Good news, bad news, who knows?” replied the farmer.

Some time after that, the farmer’s son fell and broke his leg while trying to train one of the wild horses.

    “Bad News!” said the people.

“Good news, bad news, who knows?” replied the farmer.

Soon after, the army came through town conscripting all able-bodied young men, and the farmer’s son was passed over.

    “Good News!” said the people.

“Good news, bad news, who knows?” replied the farmer.

  • Write code that is easy to delete, not easy to extend.

Every line of code written comes at a price: maintenance. To avoid paying for a lot of code, we build reusable software. The problem with code re-use is that it gets in the way of changing your mind later on.

  • Implementing next-mdx-remote server components on a Next.js project

With the recent experimental release of server components in next-mdx-remote, I am excited to convert my site back over to using next-mdx-remote from Contentlayer.

My co-worker Bryce Kalow (lead maintainer of next-mdx-remote) and I will be recording a pairing session between the two of us where we implement next-mdx-remote server components within a Next.js project. We're planning on roughly one hour and by the end of the session, we should have a PR opened for you all to reference and ask questions about.

  • Continuing work on my gear blog. I just recently merged in a big redesign. Still a lot to flesh out, but happy with the direction it's heading.

  • Exploring a short form activity feed as a supplement to my primary blog. Next step is to add an RSS feed for those interested in following along. Let's see how this goes!
